Types of Leisure Programmes in Taiwan

As Taiwan is Chinese-based country, therefore they have many events and festivals regarding to Chinese traditions that Taiwanese celebrates throughout the year.

Sky Lantern
Taiwan’s main festival is the Lunar New Year in January and the last day of the traditional Lunar New Year which is the first full moon of the lunar calendar, there will have the Lantern Festival. Taiwan is very well-known for this festival as the Taiwanese will write down their wishes on the lantern and release their lantern to sky. They believe in this sky lantern will send their wishes to the heaven and their wishes will come true one day.
During lunar New Year, temples in Taiwan are all crowded.


Next is the Mid-Autumn Festival which is held on the 15th of 8th month in lunar calendar. This festival celebrates the full moon and it symbolizes. This is the festival whereby the all family member will gather together and celebrate this event together. Usually, they will have their delicious moon cakes and hanging the lantern around the trees. This festival has its interesting story behind it.

In addition, Taiwanese also celebrate Ghost Festival during the 7th lunar month. They believe that this is the month where the gate of the hell are open and all the ghost are allowed to wander in earth. For the 1st day and 15th day of the 7th lunar month, Taiwanese will prepare meals as well as wines for the ghosts so that they will not disturb the people during this month.
